Polyester Fashion part 8/11- TJ Sharp and Deer Valley
Today’s installment of Less is More comes in the form of a TJ video.
The Lazian- despite his suggestively lazy nickname- is a man of action. Less time gabbing and gossiping is more time spent shredding.
TJ is a ripper and always has been. He seems to be pretty much good at anything he tries. He’s very competative though not to a fault. What has always struck me about him is that he a man of few words. Others ramble on and on about who knows what (irony?) while TJ tends to sit back and listen in, waiting like some sort of large asian cat, pouncing on a coversation with a joke, a knockout punchline that usually leaves me laughing pretty damn hard. He’s a guy that takes care of business and doesnt deal in the trade of bullshitery.
When shooting for this video part he did some crazy crap. The steeps that dont look very steep in the video part were ridiculous to walk up and down and stuff that I’d never consider riding. His agressive style is the model stuff that I try to imagine in my head as I ride. I’m sure it never comes out right for me though.
I dont know what else to say. TJ is a great friend.
As for Deer Valley- the place gives you black snot and cripsy fried boogies. It’s dangerous as hell looking to ride and that rock double at the top- though many claim it to be “easy” – looks like the single worst idea in western civilization. The steep turns in the middle make fools out of some of the world’s finest riders. The track seems long. It’s pretty good from what I can tell. It’s just a shame it was stuck in the middle of a series that was such a poop smear on the history of downhill racing. The empty pits at Deer Valley in the year of this video was my first huge wake up call that times-they-are-a-changin’.
Here it is:
Evan Powell promo vid
Here’s a little ditty that i worked on with a young gun around town- Evan Powell. You might remeber him from such stories as the time he told me it was “chick season” the autumn he was 14. We shot this in one day up at Sol Vista on a handful of the awesome trails there.
Evan is a good kid. He’s got some stuff he needs to work on but overall, he’s a good kid. Just a teenager is all. I doubt anyone of power and affluence really reads The New Boredom but if anyone out there can hook up a good kid with some help, please do so. He’s on his game, he means business.
oh yeah, and he can turn left really damn well. the right is catching up.
LIM- no posting!
In the unseuccessful spirit of less is more- I just up and quit posting anyting at all there for a while. Sorry. I just wasnt feeling motivated. I’m getting both stir crazy and cabin fever at the same time now due to it being a balmy -4 degrees outside. I ended up writing some stuff that’s on Litter now which you can see here:
http://www.littermag.com/2009/a-non-problem-fixed/
it’s all about how I just plain dont like your face- or fixed gear bikes, either way.
I’m also waiting for a video of TJ and some deer valley footage to finish uploading to vimeo and once that’s done I’ll post that up.
It turns out less is not always more- when I quit posting stuff, I didn’t get more traffic to the blog. Chalk that one up to the annals of history.
