The New Boredom

Mah and Newer. Manure.

A few videos for all y’all.

First of all, Troy Merkle is a stud. Who rolls fakie on a rail? Any video he puts out is such a breath of fresh air in the otherwise often droll world of web vids.

And in other news, when is some one going to make an experimental film/video using these tilt/shift time lapses? I mean they are sure as hell grade-A neato as essentially these music videos for quirky sort of electronic music… but there is some serious potential here to make something analyzing motion by contrasting how nature moves compared to how we and our machines move. This concept is ripe for the portrayal of urban landscape as a prison or a haven. One could question human nature through showing comically timid or scared reactions to their environment within the constructs of a city meant to grant us security from that which we do not understand. There just seems like so much more to be done with this technique than music video making. That said, this stuff is still ridiculously cool.

And I just recently learned that David Lynch was offered the chance to direct Return of The Jedi… that’s right, David Lynch… Return Of The Jedi. This was right around the time that he directed Dune where, in the words of John Hodgman, everyone was “sexy and deformed at the same time.” Can you imagine how crazily different Star Wars would have wrapped up with Lynch at the helm? It would have been awesome. I’m glad it didn’t happen though. Anyways, here is an animation that covers that story.

Also, this is a pretty zany thing to ponder:
