Story Time: In Which I Eat At The Right Place

with 2 comments

The other night I was eating at this little burrito joint up the street from me and about half way through my delicious burrito, I hear this voice from the kitchen yell out, “No man, we’re all out of Tums!” which was greeted with an enthusiastic “Awgawdammit” from another employee.

I decided right at that moment that I was eating at the right place that night.

I’d live there.

Loop Loop

This is probably the coolest example I can think of for a “linear film” and while I suspect some after effects foul play with compositing, it’s still a really cool idea. And even though I’m pretty sure Peter Rose did this through the midwest, this works better for me than american roadsides for content.

Also, I’m trying to learn to play my guitars so, if I don’t post much, it’s because my hobbies now include a lot less internetting.

I want to go to there.

Sandpony.

I tried to write up this thing about the recent death of Mark Linkous of Sparklehorse and how much I will miss new music coming from him in the future. So I’ve been trying to buy up the Sparklehorse albums on vinyl and have maybe been paying a little too much for them. I got one the other day and my boss at work asked if I was buying any more of those “uhh… what is it… Sand Pony records?” and I laughed my ass off.

Anyways, yes I am still buying the records. And I just got In The Fishtank that he did with Christian Fennesz whose previous stuff I wasn’t really that into. But for 20 bucks, who cared. It was Sandpony after all, how could it be bad?

Well, turns out that it isn’t. It’s actually really damn good. It’s mostly like all the noise on previous Sparklehorse albums combined onto one disc and refined. It’s worth a listen and I can’t believe that there are no real reviews of it from major critical sources online. What gives music critics? Are you d-bags at Pitckfork too busy getting boners for The Dirty Projectors to review the last during-life Sparklehorse album?

This has been around as long as the interwebs but it still gets me every time.

The Train Home

This was made by one of my former classmates named Graham Burns. He was a good guy and made one of the better films in his senior class. I don’t remember if this is exactly what he showed at the class screening but I feel like maybe he did some more with the vignetting and the sound. This came out really well. I’d suggest that you click through and watch it a little bigger than this embedded version. Do that here.

Pretty good way to get some more life out of an old box of film that had just been rotting away in a closet for a couple generations.

This had me laughing so hard. It just sums up hundreds of years of rationalist philosophy so well and yet gets to the same point of “Jeez… I need a drink…”
