The New Boredom

Mah and Newer. Manure.

Brains… settling. (Too Slowly).

I’m supposed to be at a Black Keys concert right now but I’m having to sit that out because some fancy pants doctor thinks it would be bad for my brain injury to experience a rock show. And dammit, if it were about any injury besides brainsey type, I’d say, “What do doctors know anyhow?” and proceed to rock out to my favorite band’s great live show in total disregard of my doctor’s warnings. But briansey type injuries are scary to me. Besides, they are playing the Fillmore in Denver which makes you feel like you are suffering from a brain injury by the time you leave anyways. That place sucks.

They say that I’m supposed to “take it easy” and “rest” whatever that means. So I’m cranking the new Black Keys album, Brothers, at a perfectly moderate volume on vinyl and loving it. Even the jock-jam song (Howlin’ For You) and all the falsetto tunes too.

There’s also a new Ugly Cassanova song making the rounds and it’s pretty damn swell to my ears. It’s quirky and goofy and simple and everything that I really liked about the whole Ugly Cassanova project and older Modest Mouse stuff in the first place.

I’m also listening to the new The National album and it’s great. This finally sounds like something people other than rock critics can probably more fully appreciate.

This music feels like it’s healing my brains… maybe that doctor doesn’t know shit after all.

  1. Bummer you are missing the Black Keys concert. I bought tickets to see them last year and had to sell off the the tickets last minute to go to a college graduation. I will be seeing them next month in Boston so that should be radcity.
Hey you should check out Patrick Sweany, specifically his song “them shoes”.
