The other day I was people watching and eating lunch at this hot dog/burger place in town waiting to be a victim of one of Jerry Hsu’s photo blogs when this kid and his dad come walking by from the parking lot. Of course, part of people watching includes people listening.

So the kid asks his dad, “Do all government buildings have that?”

And the dad says, “Have what?”

And the kid actually says, “The feeling that no one trusts you.”

What. The. Hell.

Is this kid being read Aldous Huxley bedtime stories? He looked like he was 7 years old. What kind of miserable childhood is this kid having if he has to worry about the government watching him and an ominous sense of betrayal by his leaders? The kid is either going to grow up and change the world by being the greatest president this country will ever know, or he will end up in a shack in the woods crafting a 15,000 page manifesto and just generally being a crazy shit.

It was probably the heaviest moment in my people watching career.

Love this episode.
