Old Things

My girl (who is working on a movie right now with Malcolm McDowell) and I recently ventured north to grab a 1977 Schwinn cruiser because all the new shit on the sales floors looks like garbage. I’m in the process of restoring it to some of it’s original shine. Pictures to come soon. I found a mid-60s cruiser made by CCM (of hockey gear fame) that says Fabrique En Canada on it and I can lean it over entirely too far for a cruiser. This will probably lead to some commuting scrapes.

Also, I can’t take my eyes off cafe racers and other old motorcycles. I watched On Any Sunday (which is on netflix instant, get some!) and all I want to do it lay it out sideways like Lawwill and then look as god damn dapper as McQueen when the race is over.

I manage a room full of the newest digital cameras and technology and all I get excited about is finding a super8 camera in good shape on ebay.

The album I’m most excited about right now is Raphael Saadiq’s Stone Rollin… plus it has Cutty from The Wire in this video and that guy is great.

Miss this show.

Danzig

Last night my lady friend and I go to see Danzig play in town. When we roll up to get our tickets from will-call, there’s some dirt bag looking people out front waiting in line. One guy is wearing what looks like a giant burlap one-sie. We overhear him say, “I can’t just ditch my bag somewhere. It’s like my house.” Clearly he was living out of a backpack… but this made sense.

Then we get inside and I have this gray tee-shirt on and I’m clearly the most colorful person in the room and I look like such an asshole.

When I was a real little kid, like maybe 2nd grade, I had this Danzig sticker in my school notebook, it was like this only it didn’t say Holloween.

And it wasn’t until maybe 5th or 6th grade that I knew who Danzig was and that was only because I watched a lot of Beavis and Butthead late at night without my parents’ permission.

I sent a message to my buddy Matt about the dirtbag guy and he says to take a shot every time Glenn whips his microphone cable. So I asked what to do if he bench presses 450 pounds and he replies- shots. So either way, I’d have been dead by the second verse of the first song.

So thanks to whatever magazine came with that Danzig sticker in my youth, thanks to B And B for some actual cultural exposure, and thanks to my lady for coming with me to the show last night. It was loud and great.
